About Terry
Terry Adirim, MD, MPH, MBA is a physician and health-policy leader who served as Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs — the Pentagon’s top health post — overseeing a more than $50 billion system of 49 hospitals, several hundred clinics and the TRICARE health plan serving almost 10 million people. She has held senior health executive roles at the Department of Health and Human Services, the VA, and practiced pediatric emergency medicine for more than 25 years. Her work focuses on making complex health systems understandable, usable, and accountable for patients and families. She writes and speaks about responsible use of AI in health care. Her next book, The Prepared Patient: Your Guide to Surviving the Health Care System (Johns Hopkins University Press) will be released August 2026.
